ABOUT THE PROGRAM
USD’s online Master of Science in Applied Data Science (MS-ADS) program prepares graduates with in-depth data literacy, relevant programming ability, and critical thinking skills to succeed in this in-demand field. The curriculum includes unique foundational courses that equip students with a strong background in data science before diving into more complex concepts, especially useful for candidates from fields other than data science. Once a solid background in data literacy is formed, students then go on to gain expertise in data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, and deep learning.
Students will graduate with strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, SQL and AWS learned through project-based courses. They will also be tested on their ability to apply their data science knowledge through a collaborative capstone project, undertaken with a group of peers to showcase their learnings.
This is a completely asynchronous course and is not lecture based. Students are expected to do independent work on their own schedule, supplemented by the resources available to them in the online classroom and weekly live sessions led by faculty. Students should expect to dedicate 15-18 hours weekly per course to studying, seeking out supplemental study materials and completing assignments.
While enrolled in a program at a top-tier US university, all postgraduate students should expect a rigorous curriculum and be prepared to work independently, think critically, and have a high level of accountability.
